The kings advisor was just what his name implies an advisor but it was more from a political standpoint then anything else he would advise the king on what was going on in the country and advise the king on wether or not a decison he made could be good or bad.

This depended on the king and what he wanted. There were military advisers, religious advisers, financial advisers, diplomatic advisers and so on. The list is probably endless.
