Spartacus, joined the Roman army at 63 BC. Spartacus was poor so he joined the Roman Army hoping he will able to fight for his freedom but, Spartacus was asked to march agaist he own people, meaning he will have to kill people in his hometown, Thrace. But Spartacus does not agree to fight/kill his own people like saying "No I'm no doing this" then he deserted.
The name "Spartacus" is a Latin name. It had no nationality as such. The rebel gladiator Spartacus was said to be from Thrace and also was said to have served in the Roman army. Many auxiliaries either Latinized their names or changed them completely to a Latin (Roman) name.

The ancient writers say that Spartacus was a Thracian, so, if true, he would have lived in Thrace. (Ancient Thrace was loosely today's country of ROMANIA) However he was also a gladiator and the Thrax or Thracian was a type of gladiator. So its unclear if Spartacus was actually from the area of Thrace itself or if "Thracian" was his fighting style. Anyhow, right before his escape he was living in the gladiatorial school in Campania.
As the title should tell you, the movie Spartacus is about the gladiator who escaped along with others and terrorized Italy. Much of the movie versions of Spartacus are fictionalized as very little is actually known about the person called Spartacus.
Spartacus became a gladiator when he was captured and trained. I know this is not a very specific answer, but we know very, very little about Spartacus, the man. We don't even know if "Spartacus" was his real name. He comes into history as a leader of a slave revolt and leaves history as a defeated enemy.
Spartacus escaped in 1983 when he led 80 other slaves in the third serville war with the Romans
He could have the people he was leading chose not to and he stayed with them.
Spartacus was not accused of anything. He was part of some 200 gladiators who escaped from a gladiatorial school and during the course of their escape enlisted thousands of slaves and fought Roman militia and small army units.

Your question is difficult to answer because judging from the evidence we have concerning Spartacus, it seems that even Spartacus himself did no know what he wanted to do. It's obvious that he wanted his freedom and loot but otherwise he seems not to have had a direction or any type of plan for escape. This wa born out in his army's trek to the far north of Italy, within range of freedom, and then its abrupt turn around to the extreme south of Italy.

Spartacus kills his best friend to spare him of the agonies of crucifixion. This happened after the Spartacus slave army was defeated and Spartacus and his friend were captured.
