The cold war did not take place in any specific location. It did however involve the United States and Russia because they were the only super powers left in the world after WWII.

The cold war itself was just that - a cold war. No men died. The two competing super powers, Soviet Union, and the United States, had nuclear weapons. Neither of them fought directly to avoid destroying the Earth. Instead they fought through proxy wars. Or wars were either side would support one side and then the reverse. These two proxy wars were the Vietnam war and the Korean War. 50,000 men died in the Vietnam War and 33,000 died in the Korean war.

The cold wars followed after world world war 2 because, the war produced two super powers, The United States and The USSR. Both had their own beliefs and government and wanted their beliefs to be the ideal one for other country's. The largest factor of the cold war was democracy vs. communism. During the cold war the United States fought the USSR indirectly by using different country's Some examples of this are the Korean war and the Vietnam war.

Cold war was a war of threats, politics between democratic west and communist east. It was caused by the end of WWII with the emergence of two super powers America and the USSR, and their opposing ideologies. It was called a cold war because there were no occasions of direct armed conflict between the super powers.

Asians (Koreans & Vietnamese) became surrogates of the cold war super powers in direct military confrontations. Although, in the case of the US (super-power)...not really a surrogate for the free world forces; as the US was HEAVILY & DIRECTLY involved in both Asian Wars.
