The first deployed atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima, Japan on August 6, 1945, by the United States B-29 bomber. The bomb killed 80,000 people immediately and wiped out 90-percent of Hiroshima. Three days later another atomic bomb was dropped on Nagasaki, Japan, killing 40,000 people. Thousands more died in both cities later of radiation poisoning. A week later Japan surrendered during World War II.
