If America were to go to war with Russia the conflict wouldn't simply be Russia vs the U.S the conflict would branch out to America and such allies as Europe, Canadia. and South Korea along with several other countries. Russia would bring such allies as China, North Korea and possibly other countries. Congress would be forced to reinstate the draft. As the war continued America would be to spread to thin and possibly lose its footing in Europe, South Korea and Japan. Such circumstances would force America to use nuclear force effectively bring humanity to its knee's. Russia also has its fare share of nukes pointed at the us
In terms of military strength, the United States has a history of superior equipment though Russia has a history of larger numbers. At the end of World War II, the United States would have had a good chance as the country was still mobilized from the war and Soviet Russia had been weakened by the German invasion. In addition to that there would also have been enthusiastic support from Poland.
At the time of the Cold War, a direct confrontation could have gone either way. As far as the nuclear bombs are concerned, both countries possessed them and still do. Both countries had enough nuclear bombs to annihilate the other countries and permanently targeted at important cities. There would have been enough time for any country launched on to launch a retaliatory strike, most likely resulting in nuclear winter and the end of the world as we know it. That is largely the reason why neither country could risk a direct confrontation.
Nope. Too many chinkers
Defeat, Communism and loss of territory.

To help France and Russia defeat Germany. Britain wanted Germany to lose WWI, so they joined France and Russia. Britain was worried that if Germany won WWI, they would be too powerful for England to defeat by themselves, so they joined France and Russia and declared war on Germany.

No.
Declaring war on the USA after Japan declared war on America. Germany declared war on America hoping Japan would declare war on Russia. Since Japan did not declare war on Russia (Russia would later declare war on Japan), Germany did not have to declare on America. If Germany had not declared war on the USA, America would have difficulty in declaring war on Germany (although USA and Germany naval vessels in the North Atlantic were shooting at one another in 1941). If Germany had not declared war on the USA, then Hitler would not have had to face the military men and equipment of America. Although Russia fought the majority of land battles against Germany, it was American men and equipment that helped Russia and Britain and other Allied nations to defeat Germany.
To defeat Britain,France and Russia.
