The presumption is you are referring to Red China and NOT Nationalist China (Taiwan). Any nation fighting a nuclear war risk's mutual destruction. That's why we had a cold war...no war.

We had already fought Red China once during a conventional war (non-nuclear) during the LIMITED WAR (Limited to conventional weapons) in Korean War (1950-1953). The historian/student will have to study the Korean War, the only available case study on warfare between the US Military verses the Red Chinese Military.

The U.S. will never be able to defeat China strategically or in the long run. History has told us that the U.S. has failed to defeat China in all past engagements since WW2, directly or indirectly, and when China had far inferior hardware and doctrines than now.

China will be fighting a defensive war, no one will be willing to help an aggressor in the international community. The only U.S. allies which will actively assist will only be Japan. The U.K. will only provide limited support -- if she ever opts for fighting China. No E.U. country will help. Russia will of course not help the U.S., and is likely to provide intelligence and supplies to China. China and Russia will also veto any unfavourable bill in the United Nations. The U.S. will be fighting alone.

The war will be fought right at China's doorsteps, without land-based supply bases, the U.S. will have serious logistics problems to launch any offensive to the Chinese Mainland with reasonable results.

The U.S. is virtually broke and running on borrowed money, no one can fight such a large scale war by just printing more cash. The U.S. cannot afford the attrition of her high-priced military hardware in a high rate and for a long time, fighting China will certainly mean high attrition rate and for a long time.

It is correct that China have a large number of soldier but its still useless because their technology in military still old like in 1970. In this era, war is cant be determine by a large number of soldier but how to increase the casualties by using a small number of soldier. Now we can look at any aspect :

Warship

China have a lot of warship than US have, but all China warship is Tiny and its outdated. US Navy is the largest nave (tonnage wise) in the world, and still bigger than next 17 largest navies combined. Talk about China anti ship missiles and anti ballistic missiles for Mid-Air, China Anti Ship Missiles its usless agains US Battleship group because its very easy for United States to track and shooting down all missiles can threat the battlegroup.

Satellite and Missiles

China Anti Ballistic Missile for Mid-Air that has successfully tested this week, it is true these missiles interceptor is effective to track and shooting down mid-air ballistic missile but only ballistic conventional missile such as russia ballistic missile or India ballistic missile but China Mid-Air Anti Ballistic Missile cannot shooting down the US Cruise or Ballistic Missile because US Cruise and Ballistic Missile has upgrade many times the technology inside the missiles so its very difficult for China to track and shooting down US Missiles. Now USA has Missile Shield which is can track down and shooting down all Ballistic Missile including ICBM (Intercontinental Ballistic Missile) and US Still Developing and upgrade the system with Japan. China is 3rd Country in the world that have Anti Satellite Missiles but even though China has that missiles and want to shooting down US Satellites, its very easy for US to intercept China Anti Satellite Missile before hit the target.

Aircraft Combat

China air plane doesn't match with F-22, F-35, or F15 Strike eagle even though in magazine they said they have the next generation aircraft but still cannot match, we can see all china product that is very easily damage.

and the most important is China doesn't have Top Gun and Experience Pilot in Real Combat, they just have pilot that good in Simulation.

Submarine

it is true that china has a lot of Submarine right now and has a nuclear submarine, but still the technology still old and its very easy for United States to track and sink china submarine. US Subs has the most update technology and now US Subs can be stealth or cannot be track by any country in this world.

Soldier and Special Forces

China has a lot of Soldier in the world because China population around 1.6 billion right now, but still useless again high impact technology, and China soldier doesn't has experience in real war, it's different with US Soldiers that have many experience in real war. Just Flashback in Korean War 1950, China drop more than 500.000 soldier to help North Korean, in the beginning China had success take control pyongyang and pushed back UN Soldier back to Seoul which is in that time the Supreme Commander for UN at the Far East is General Mac Arthur. at the end of war China has lost over 700.000 men and US Soldier has lost around 50.000.

Technology

China technology still out of date like technology in 1970. for example China production motorcycle and car, but its very easy to broken and need to repair many times and it takes a lot of cost, and China doesn't have High Tech Semiconductor Chip Factory so they need to import from Another Country like Japan.

Radar

united States has the most high tech radar in the world more than any country, so it's impossible for China to track down US Stealth Air Plane, only US Radar can detect.

Main Battle Tank (MBT)

China MBT like usually still out of dated, they have MBT t-72 model and it doesn't match with US MBT : M1A2 Abraam which is has high tech technology inside, has very strong armor and use 120 mm Cannon with Uranium Composition and making only US in the world use this type of Cannon in MBT.

Helicopter

China Helicopter is very similar with Russian Helicopter "Hind" because China has adopted the technology from Russia, but its very not comparable with US Chopper AH-64D Apache Longbow which is very famous in battle.

If China and US going into war over Taiwan, there is a strategy to win this war :

1. US must make secure all their base in pacific especially in Japan and South Korea from China attack and must fully protect because this base is foundation to send more troops from USA and as a base supply.

2. US must supply Taiwan with a lot of High-Tech Weapon, Aircraft and Military Necessary, so Taiwan can be defend it self from All China Ballistic Missiles and All China aircraft and help US while US fight with China

3. China First Step to strike is attack US Base and Navy Battle group, so US must be ready for this, US must be strike first if US has seen the sign of movement China Warship approaching Taiwan or US Battle Group. US must be disobey the Rules of Engagement. US must mobilize half of US Navy Warship into this war to win the battle at Sea.

4. Once US has neutralized all China Warship at sea, the next move is US Must Strike China with a lot of High Tech Short Range Ballistic Missile and high speed Cruise Missiles ( The most important Target on China that must destroyed is Radar Station, Ballistic Missile Battery, Tank Factory, Aircraft Factory, Power Plant, Radio Station, Television Station, Bridge), For example, if US want to destroyed the power plant , US must strike with over 15 cruise missile in 1 target and it makes china difficult to shooting the missiles because their capability for anti ballistic missile still primitive and limited.

If all the target has destroyed and it takes a very expensive cost to china, i think china will withdraw from this war. Just Remember : China Must Strike First Taiwan or US Property at the beginning, so there is reason for US to engage China, and i think all US Allies will Support US.

If US Want to defeat China in Economics, US and US-ALLIES must be impose the regulation for Import products from China, US and his Allies must us protecsionism regulation to protect all US and his Allies Products from China Product, and because of that China Export will be dropped shortly, because China cannot stand hold just depend on their Internal Consume.
