The war ended in the summer of 1945 it is estimated that 50 million people lost there lives. It ended with the unconditional surrender of the axis power. Germany surrendered on may the 5th to the western allies and on may the Th to the soviet union about a week after Adolf Hitler committed suicide. Japan was to hold out for another few months and was preparing desperate and bloody Defence in the event of an American invasion of islands.

It is believed that an estimated twenty million Russians died because of the war. If you added all of the military and civilian casualties in Europe, Africa, Asia, and Oceania, the global death toll could be over 50 million people.

Another result of the war came about when the US dropped two atomic bombs on civilian targets in Japan. This had the dual effect of shortening the war in Asia, and of showing the nuclear capabilities of the US to the USSR. This led to the Cold War between the West and communist Russia.

It created a whole generation left with a reduced population, horrible memories, disablilites and injuries, and all sorts of mental issues from it.

The Soviet Union had their biggest cities reduced to pieces of trash. They lost %12 of their population.

Germany lost 8% of its population. The people there, especially in East Germany, took on great suffering even after the war.

The superpowers all went into debt. Many shipping ships were lost.

Japan suffered from nuclear side effects, and those areas being wiped out.

Stalin, Roosevelt and Churchill demanded Germany split into factions to be controlled by their respective countries and France, but Hitler refused. Allied forces and the Red Army invaded Berlin and Hitler committed suicide. America quickly ended the war in the Pacific with two nuclear weapons dropped on Japan.
