In concept they were neutral however even though they were free of British rule during World War 2 there was a Royal Army Force in Egypt. Nazi spies were rampant in Egypt. The Brits however did manage to repel the German Nazis from the Suez Canal and Egypt.
In World War II Egypt ws a British colony, so they were on the Allied side. There were some Egyptian Wafdist rebels who might have supported the Axis side against Britain, but they were ignored by the Germans.
