Actually the fighting stopped as a truce or Armistice went into effect at that date and time. So as far as the soldiers were concerned the answer is Yes, and that's why we have Rembrance Day on 11 November.

To be very explicit, the general Armistice began on 11 Nov 1918, at 11:11am GMT, with fighting ceasing on all fronts at that time. The actual end of the war depends on whom you ask, as the formal end had to wait for all countries to sign peace treaties between them. Germany and the main Allied Powers (UK, France, Italy, and the USA) signed the Treaty of Versailles on 28 June, 1919. In addition, Russia had previously negotiated a peace treaty with Germany (the Treaty of Brest-Litvosk in early March 1918).
In practical terms, the Armistice day ended the war, and is commonly cited as the end of WW1.
