Yes there were villages/parishes that all the men who left for the war returned. These are called the THANKFUL VILLAGES.
Originally it was thought that there were 32 but it is now believed that there were 41.

They weren't raised with manners that Southerner's are taught at the earliest age. Not saying all were like that, but many. They didn't have anything to lose. If the North would of lost, they would of not be ruled by The CSA. Where as, read true history of what happened when Lee surrendered. Read about Reconstruction/Deconstrution. Also there were more professional soldiers in the southern army. As far as looks, brother fought against brother. Again I'll go back to my original statement. The Union had nothing to loose, The South had "everything" to loose.
