American factories began converting their materials into items usable for the war. Such as aircraft carriers, submarines, fighter planes, or even just uniforms. The United States was effective in World War II because they produced war items faster than the Axis could destroy them. In 1942, the US had the lowest unemployment rate in its history.
Soldiers wore uniforms during the civil war so that they would know who was the union and confederate.
Army uniforms!!!!!
The north had more supplies, because the south had no factories
in general, no, both sides did not wear homespun. The north's industrial facilities allowed them to mass produce enough materials for uniforms. I'm sure there where exceptions, particularly amoungst the western "militias" and other poorly organized units but I for one have seen no record of union soldiers marching in homespun.
Factories are needed to make goods. During the war they made uniforms, supplies, guns, weapons and other necessary items. After the war they were needed to create the things needed to rebuild.
Factories, especially in the North were large enough to produce weapons, uniforms and the shipyards large enough to build warships. In the South which had been mostly an agricultural economy, the factories were not as numerous or of the same size of the established ones in the North. This is a general statement.
The textile factories dyed the Union uniforms blue, and the few Southern clothing factories dyed the Confederate uniforms grey, but many Southern privates, especially toward the end of the war, served without uniforms at all. There are no very accurate figures on the number of dyers on both sides during the conflict. They would have worked for private companies under government contracts.
Furiously active. There was demand for everything the Northern factories could produce - armaments, uniforms, military eqipment, food. The factories were also able to use skilled immigrants from Europe, who were continuing to arrive.

During the Civil War period, northern factories produced a range of goods to support the Union war effort. This included weapons and ammunition, uniforms and other military supplies, as well as various types of machinery. Additionally, northern factories continued to produce consumer goods such as textiles, clothing, and various household products.
yes
The North had more factories than the South because the South relied on their agricultural based economy.
