Yes, many do. The most notable one to me was Gen Norman (Dutch) Cota. As Assistant Division Commander of the US 29th Infantry , Cota landed with his men on the second wave to hit Omaha Beach on D-Day. Cota was one of the highest-ranking officers on the beach that day. He is famous for personally rallying and encouraging the shell-shocked, pinned-down survivors and opening one of the first vehicle exits off the beach.
