Not entirely. A college is usually a smaller school that may issue bachelors, masters or even doctoral degrees, specializing in one or two areas largely, like the arts and education for example, or psychology. A university generally has many departments with many different specialty areas (engineering, mathematics, science, philosophy, arts, theater, music, literature, sociology, etc) is much larger, has undergraduate (Bachelors Degrees) as well as graduate (masters and doctoral degrees) programs, and may have law and medical schools as well.

Both are institutions of higher education (beyond high school), and there are similarities as well as differences.

Hope this helps some.

Do you need an education to join the military?

a good education. you need to go to college and get a degree. The requirements as of 30 April 2010 is that a person must be a High School Senior or Graduate, a College Student or have a GED with 15+ college credits. Not everyone can afford to attend college, the US Army will assist you in your efforts on obtaining a college degree by giving you Tuition Assistance of $4,500.00 a year to attend any college/university of your choice as well as studying the field of your choice and also the Montgomery GI Bill up to $50,448.00. Now you have a lot of benefits given to you, but you will need to know how to use them and of course take advantage of them on your own. At the time of in-processing the personnel at the Army's Education Center will train and teach you how to use your educational benefit's.A degree does not make you a better or smarter person, it just means that you went to college, it is however always with in your best interest to get as much education as you can to make yourself more marketable to society and hey if its free why not use it.Ged Or HS DiplomaAs of right now 30 April 2010 you must be a High School Senior, High School Graduate, College Student or have a GED with 15 or more college credits.
