Francisco Franco was was the fascist dictator of Spain from 1939 to 1975 when died. He led his forces against the Spanish government and became a bloody civil war. During the civil war which lasted over 2 years, Franco was supported by Germany, which contributed hundreds of aircraft flown by German pilots. The Soviet Union, sided with the Republican government and donated military support till the war was over. Franco was pressured by Hitler to join the Axis Alliance during the war.
