The rifle is an adaptation of the Musket: The inside of the barrel in a rifle is rifled: it has a spiral of grooves that make the bullet spin in flight which makes it more accurate & gives it greater range. Napoleon didn't allow his troops to use the Rifle as it was too slow to load. Conversely the Rifles of the 95th & 60th ( Royal North American) Regiments of the British army had successes in the Peninsular war against the French 1809 to 1813. In the Austrian army of the same times the Tyrolischer Kaiserjaeger also used rifles. The British weapon was called the Baker Rifle. But who adapted it?
