I dont think that is right... But i think it was to hold small weapons and food. But i dont think that is right....

I Just Recently Studied this in school. Gas was used in World War I. Seeing as how both opposing sides were dug into trenches, when the wind was in the user's favor, they would release the gases and they would infect the opposing side, hoping to be able to cross No Man's Land (the area in between the two trenches) and push back the enemy.
