World War II happened as a result of several very significant factors in the 1920s and 1930s. The rise of aggressive, even vengeful, attitudes in Germany, Japan, and (to a lesser extent) Italy was one such factor. The weakness of the traditional opponents of Germany (Great Britain, France) was another. The isolationism of the United States may also be seen as a cause, since Germany and even Japan gained confidence that they could make war without fear that the United States would react, if at all, with resolution.
