The Vietnam War did NOT affect the US population with any rationing or shortages, as had WWII. The ONLY thing that affected the US population was whether or not people should get married (because the future husband might get drafted any week), or have any kids, until the war was over, because their father might get drafted any week, or take a new job...because he could get drafted anytime now. ONLY those things affected people's lives in the US. The uncertainty of what the future held for young people of the 60's & 70's. Other than those that had suffered casualties already.

Watching the Vietnam War on the Huntley Brinkley Reports & Walter Cronkite News stations on TV; then opening their mail, to find a draft notice for military induction, to fight the very war they were watching on TV...Most certainly UPSET US Citizens!
Before World War One, the United States of America had an isolation policy. This meant that they did not involve themselves in any international affairs or wars. However after World War One, there was a massive shift in their policy and they eliminated their isolation policy.
There was no American victory in the Cold War. No one won it. The fact that both Communist nations and Communist ones exist today is proof.
