Marquis de Lafayette came to America because he, like many other Frenchmen, hated Great Britain. He decided to come to America to help the Americans fight the many battles against the British. He proved his loyalty to America when he was wounded in the leg during the Battle of Brandywine and stayed with Washington and the American troops at Valley Forge during the cold winter.
If you have any other questions about him, let me know! :-)
