Our modern world was shaped by World War 2 when technology, computers, medical science, jet science, rocket science and agricultural science advanced by leaps and bounds due to the engineers, medical scientists and agricultural scientists pushing their knowledge outside the box. They learned more as need arose. The military science advanced further as it tried new and untried techniques with new equipment. The atom energy physicists learn to harness the atom to be used for bombs, missiles and atomic energy plants. Communications, encryption, computers and radios changed immensely after the war when they learned they needed to greatly improve in those areas.

The social, cultural changes were outstanding. Women and Blacks were accepted into the higher up workforces and professions. Many Blacks, nonwhites, and women joined the GIs by going back to school. (colleges) Many became business owners and professionals like lawyers, doctors, writers, scientists, engineers, Accountants, investors and teachers.

The Baby Boom which was the result of World War 2 and the Korean war opened up a real Pandora's box as the boomers grew up to break many moral mores and changed the way we live now. Their defiance caused many to question their value systems and ideals. The boomers were well educated and made their mark on society.

The consequences of the war have shaped our current society in a number of ways, including the following:

  • Women are seen as a lot more independence and have a lot more power over their own lives.
  • A number of areas have changed what country they belong to.
  • We, as individuals, have a respect for what happened. Those events have become part of our history.
  • The establishment of the US as a superpower - the status of which still remains.
  • The Cold War came as a consequence of WWII, and the consequences of the Cold War such as Vietnam still echoes in society today.
  • The realization that nuclear weapons need to be carefully controlled and not used unless absolutely necessary. The devastation from the bombs on Japan showed the dangers of nuclear weapons.
  • The development of the United Nations
