Men looked like hamburger meat once they'd been impacted by high velocity projectiles (bullets and shrapnel, and concussion). Do NOT believe in television or any other action packed movie filmed in the 21st century (and a lot of 20th century films). Human bodies look like road kills on modern battlefields. In movies, especially COP SHOWS, every "body" looks like the person is just laying down (which they are) or sleeping (which they might be). That's NOT the way they look in real life. The number one greatest fear of the average GI in Vietnam was not dying! It was looking like "THAT" (a road kill)! There was a saying in Vietnam (one of many), "Live fast, die young, and be a BEAUTIFUL CORPSE!"

Hamburger Hill is the nickname. This nickname was given to a hill the US Army designated as hill #937 in the Vietnam War. American soldiers who fought on the hill called it this suggesting those who fought there were "chewed up like a hamburger."
