People had to be evacuated and food and goods had to be rationed. People had to take care not to waste food. Many people ended up healthier as they ate far more fresh vegetables and fruit - and less fat and sugar.

They responded by saving there fod and only eating a certain amount a day. There ration book was checked every day when they got the food. Obiviosly it was very hard so there response would not of been great.I think some of the people couldn't take it.

They had the rationing tickets for the items that were restricted. In addition to paying for the item, you had to give the appropriate number of tickets of the correct type. Sugar and butter were big items. Shoes, gasoline, tires were items with limited availability.

Each individual got a book of tickets, which included being based on the age and profession of the individual. A doctor would get more for gas and tires to allow him to visit patients.
