World War 1 was very slow and defensive with troops advancing and digging in constantly. the army had not fully grasped how to use artillery effectively and tanks were only just being introduced.
World War 2 was fast moving and more open with the Germans utilizing armour tactics by developing "BLITZKRIEG" also the introduction of airborne infantry meant hard spots in defenses could be bypassed and attacked from the rear. air tactics meant stationary defensive positions were easy targets.
but tactics depended on the terrain in North Africa the area was wide open and flat ideal for tanks but for example the battle for Caen or villers bocage were in built up areas where tanks were venerable.

∙ 15y agoIn brief, fighting in large measure in the First World War was called "trench warefare" for the many excavated areas where soldiers "shot it out" with the enemy situated in the same manner a few hundred yards away. Intermittant shelling from remote artillary positions "brightened up" the days of the soldiers. The battles were static and less than effective. The tank was an attempt to put an armored, manned, mobile gun platform into the mix to "go offensive" and overwhelm the enemy. The early tanks were terrible at this, but the idea was a most correct one. World War 1 tanks were only modestly successful owing to technology that was too-quickly developed and pressed into service too early. But when the Germans launched across Europe in their early land grabs before a formal declaration of war, the tank was the tip of the spear. And it remains so today. Air power was vital then and even more so now, but when the Army says, "Charge!" to the troops, it is the main battle tank that thunders across the ground in front to take the turf that the enemy holds. Thus when Lancelot de Mole (an Australian inventor) invented the tank, the British were able to break through the lines of the enemy and their trenches became useless in the face of the tanks (the heavybarbed wirewas easily overcome with the might of the tanks) . Once the tanks had overcome the defenses and cause panic and mayhem in the enemy lines it became easy for the infantry to move in.
