For the average US Citizen, and possibly any other human being living in a society that had knowledge of Atomic Bombs (Nuclear Missiles); daily life consisted of..."Gee, is that a mushroom cloud over there? Darn, someone pushed the button...S--- , it started." We lived under the cloud of Nuclear War. Life was routine, and one day it might happen...until then life went on.

During and after the cold war, the world's nations decided that it would be smart to have nuclear weapons and also that it was good to be technologically advanced. The world pretty much had a race to see who had the best technology and who had the best weapons. It changed the world because now nations are trying to get other nations not to use them, and also because nations are always thinking if something happens there can be a nuclear war. Also, because we are technologically advanced, we are able to get so far. We have ipods where before we would need records, tapes, cds. And also the most recent thing I can remember the ipad. it's things that made a difference and let us be as technologically advanced as we are.

The inventions that the Cold War produced would change the world forever; the most important of these innovations were the microwave, integrated circuits, communications and spy satellites, ICBM (Inter Continental Ballistic Missile), internet, smoke detector, supercomputer, and GPS. Not to mention the advances in how our government now deals with foreign affairs, like the use of more high tech servalance through satalites to ensure proper diagnostics on international threats. After the cold war it is safe to say America has taken on a new international role as a world peace keeper, or world police sort of, although are actions are only executed when the benefits out weigh the risks, like in the case of Iraq for forgien oil.

Among other things, there were the children brought up in a state of fear, called the "Duck and Cover Generatiion".Which iis often seen as an abberation in American socitey.

We lived our daily lives, routinely...if the MUSHROOM Clouds appeared; just try to live from day to day. Don't think about it, if they appear, they appear...there's nothing anyone can do about it. Live your life as if tomorrow would never come.

Much of the US was worried about the possibility of a nuclear war. Civil Defense drills were common. Vast quantities of materials and effort were put into weapons development. If these had been focused on other activities, many things in the world might be different. The world was divided into two armed camps, each very suspicious of the other.

Americans began to fear communism and people who were suspected as communists, such as celebrities in the entertainment industry (look up the Hollywood Ten), received criminal punishment.
