Immerse the mask in the disenfecting solution. Soak and swirl...
A gas mask is a mask worn over the face to protect the wearer from inhaling airborne pollutants and toxic materials. The mask forms a sealed cover over the nose and mouth, but may also cover the eyes and other vulnerable soft tissues of the face. Some gas masks are also respirators, though the word gas mask is often used to refer to military equipment (e.g. Field Protective Mask, etc.) (The user of the gas mask is not protected by gas that the skin can absorb.)

The main part of the gas mask is made out of rubber.
When you wear a gas mask your main sensation is of heat and staleness (the rubber makes you sweat badly, and most of the air you breathe out builds up in the body of the mask, so you breathe it in again). There is an unpleasant sweet rubber smell (a little like hot tarmac, but otherwise difficult to describe) but the discomfort soon makes you forget about that. And everything looks green and dim (because of the protective plastic over your eyes).
Stow your gas mask in an approved carrier. Pull the harness over the mask, with the cheek straps loosened so it is ready to don in case of an emergency.
Drop to the ground, don protective mask (if not donned already)
Reverse it over the face of the mask. To stow a protective mask, hold it in one hand so the hood is hanging free. With your other hand, fold the hanging-down part of the hood against the side of the mask. Then bring the harness around the side of the mask. Grasp hood, harness and mask all together in your hand, open the mask case and stick it in with the lenses pointed toward the back of the case. (Do it a couple of times and it becomes second nature.) What you do NOT want to do is to spread apart the sides of the mask and shove the harness in there--that will slow you down when you need to don the mask, and getting slowed down when putting on a protective mask could kill you.
