After the second world war there was a greater interest in traveling abroad, influenced by soldiers returning from overseas package by air, taking a group to Corsica in a DC3 aircraft in 1950. by combining the transportation, ground transfers and accommodations into a package holiday tour operators encouraged people to take their first holiday abroad. by the early 1960's millions were doing so, many heading for the sunny beaches of Spain

Several Major tour operators started business or were created by mergers in the 1960's and 1970's, including Thomas travel group, but many failed.
