The English Civil War was made up of three parts. The first civil war was from 1642 to 1646. The second civil war was from 1648 to 1649. The third civil war was from 1649 to 1651. The whole is referred to as a single war, the English Civil War.

Of the 3 main Battles both Marston Moor & Naseby were decisive. Edge Hill was drawn, but militarily the Parliamentarians had the better troops and leadership. Worcester in 1651 was the final defeat and Charles II was exiled in France until 1660.
