At the time of USA entering WW II fewer than 7000 women were enlisted as Nurses in US Army. However, within six months of entering war this number swelled to 12000. Many nurses were decorated with medals like Distinguished Service medal which is second only to the highest Medal of Honor.

During WWII, it was a COMMUNIST PRACTICE to employ females in combat. NOT the Allied Nations. See book on Soviet Female Fighter Pilots during WWII: "Night Witches."

17 nurses were killed in WW2. one answer says 200, and that's a lie. we would of stopped sending nurses over if that much had died.
