People? Do you mean civilians? Allied soldiers and marines, airmen and sailors? The enemy?

A very general response to this question would be: From about 1955 thru 1969, US Military personnel in South Vietnam (RVN) came across elephants and tigers in the forested/jungle portions of the country. Casualties from them are unknown; but probably close to none (other than fear and the firing of weapons in response to that fear). From 1969 until the end of the war in '75 nearly all of the elephants and tigers were gone (or out of the country); reason: South Vietnam had more bombs dropped on it than Germany did in all of WWII by the allies. South Vietnam had tons of artillery fired into the hills, swamps, and forests (jungles). South Vietnam had billions of bullets fired into its hills, swamps, and forests (jungles)...all of this firepower chased those wild animals away (or killed them).

About the only thing that existed in country by 1970 were wild hogs and those ever present "snakes" (they seemed to be everywhere). Those were normally shot on sight (the snakes), and casualties from them were small (but probably higher than zero).
