Is elias from platoon gay

I believe that Elias was gay. I've never heard Oliver Stone or anyone else ever address the question, but this is why I believe that he was:

1) Early in the movie, there is a scene where the platoon is setting up camp. The very first time I saw the movie, I caught the image of the guy with his pants down around his waist - just barely showing some butt cheek - and he was obviously masturbating. There was another member of the platoon walking up, clearly watching him masturbating. The 2 parties in that scene are Elias (the masturbator) and Johnny Depp's character - Lerner. A few minutes later, there is a very quick flash where you see Elias zipping up his pants and he says "any time" to Lerner, as Lerner is walking away.

2) Later on you see Elias dancing with a guy in the pot-den while the song "The tracks of my tears" is playing.

3) And - of course - the very gay wave that Elias gives Chris Taylor the first time he visits the pot-den. :-)

Just speculation. But, it's enough to convince me. :-)
