The simple answer is YES. Some say it was a British Government attempt at ethnic cleansing. Scotland a small nation with around 5 million people, had its troops sent in first, to face the barrage of artillery and small arms fire from the enemy. Relative to the whole British Empire ( not just UK ) Scottish service men died at a rate of 5 to 2, 147,000 of them, that's 26.4% Death Rate to 11.8% of the whole British Empire. In the year of 2014, the UK government intends holding a nation wide commemoration of the start of WW1. This is considered a sick and detestable act, for no decent person celebrates the start of any war, the end of a war should be commemorated , not the start. It is no doubt an attempt to counteract the vote on independence from UK, that Scotland will be having in the same year. An attempt to reach out to Scots and make them feel proud to be British. The UK government are trying their best to convince the Scots that we are all better off together and that Scotland should vote against independence from UK.. However, commemoration of the start of WW1, is bound to be disasterous campaign for the London government in Scotland When the Scots find out these figures and how they were used as cannon fodder, I am sure more and more will vote to get away from this war mongering nation. read. http://wingsland.podgamer.com/dulce-et-decorum

In ww1 what happened with the naval battles?

Germany & Britain were too cautious with each; the Germans refused to fight and fled into their ports at Jutland. Britain was too cautious, ran, then couldn't find the Germans to fight them again. Their greatest naval battles with each other were at the Coronel Islands and Falkland Islands against Admiral Graf Spee. There was no cowardice shown there!

What side was Ukraine on in world war ii?

The Ukraine was part of the Soviet Union, and so was on the Allied side, against Germany. Huge battles were fought over the major Ukrainian cities, both at the time of the German invasion, and again when the Russians were driving out the Germans. Some individual Ukrainians welcomed the Germans when they invaded, thinking anyone would be better than Stalin. They soon learned that Hitler was certainly no improvement. Individual Ukrainians also collaborated with the Germans in rounding up and murdering Ukrainian Jews, and some served in the German military. Most Ukrainians though fought against the Germans.
