∙ 13y agoThe largest Confederate Army was the Army of Northern Virginia. It surrendered on April 9, 1865, at the Appomattox Court House near Petersburg, Virginia. This is often considered the end of the Civil War because the Union immediately occupied the rebel capital at Richmond. Two other significant Confederate armies surrendered in late April and early May, 1865.
