Well, first of all, you could type this into Google to get some good answers. That would be easiest. But, it sort of depends on which class you are talking about, too. You probably know that there were three classes:
Upper
Middle
Lower
Most people were lower class. Wealthier people ate things like:
Cow Stomach
Steaks
Dairy Products (These were mainly for the wealthier, because they couldn't store them for very long periods of time)
Bread
Puddings
Etc.
The middle class ate things that were mostly the same as listed for upper class, but in smaller portions.
Lower class ate:
Bread
Potatos
Soups
Pretty much the same as today, except you have to forget about the McDonalds and KFC production , chocolate, sugar and other current food products that disturb human metabolism so much. Around that era the use of potatoes already started.
Food was produced in majority by small farms, the food quality was different than today. Today it is important to make everything extremely cheap and mass produced, quality is no more a value to consider in food production.
Bakeries, milk processing, beer brewery, all that worked pretty much in the same manner as it is today, ice cream (& sorbet) was made in similar or same manner as today, only freezing was provided by another means.
Remember, there were no microwave ovens at that time, so no food that could be prepared in that manner too.
,
In the early 17th century was when forks were first introduced. During the century new foods were introduced into England (for the rich) such as bananas and pineapples. New drinks were introduced tea and coffee. In the late 17th century there were many coffee houses in the towns. And in the late 17th century was when ice-cream was first introduced. Many rich people built special underground chambers in the grounds of their houses for preserving ice during the summer, the ice was covered in straw to preserve it. However for the poor food remained plain, they subsisted on food like bread, cheese and onions. Ordinary people also ate pottage each day. This was a kind of stew. It was made by boiling grain in water to make a kind of porridge. You addedvegetables and (if you could afford it) pieces of meat or fish. So food depended on how poor or rich you are, as if you are poor you wouldn't be able to afford as much or such quality as rich families.
I hope this helped you!
