ALWAYS consider the source (know the individual's credentials). Who said it failed? Just because the US didn't win the war, doesn't mean Search and Destroy failed. Searching for the enemy and destroying him in place was SOP (Standard Operating Procedures). Sometimes he put up a stiff fight, sometimes he retreated (to live to fight another day), sometimes he died in place. The enemy kept coming (via the Ho Chi Minh trail) and the US/allies kept destroying him. But soon, the US wore out, tired of it, and left.
