Bernard Montgomery was married to Elizabeth Carver, the sister of Percy Hobart and widow of Olympic medalist Oawald Caver, and together they had one son, David. Elizabeth died between wars when she was bitten by an insect on holiday at Burnham-on-Sea and the bite became infected.
