Was the north and south different in their way of life during the civil war?

The North wanted to combine all the States under one rule and be a United States with each state still having its own legislation. The South wanted the states to remain independent. This would allow each state to make laws without going to congress, this would also allow each individual state complete autonomy over issues such as slavery, trade, import, export and ammending laws. The south was getting rich on the cotton and sugar exports and with hardly no labor costs. The North was surviving on the steel industry among other things and was also receiving a huge influx of immigrants whom needed jobs. Anotherwords the North and the South were not balanced economically and this seemed unfair to the North. The war started out over lack of economic balance between the Northern and Southern states, they differed on matters of states rights as individual states. Yes. The North was industrialized and had 3/4 of the population. The South was agrarian and outnumbered both by people and congressional representation. This was one of the main causes of the rebellion.
