German shepherds or Police dogs, were widely used by the German Police and related agencies ( such as the Waffen-SS, the Feldpolizei units ( akin to beat cops in occupied territories- called Feldgendarmerie in France0 Armed forces and so on. The opposite number- the other side, the Soviet Union, used Huskies for most defense , mine detection and other police and military tasks. So the Germans used Shepherds some in the Waffen SS, while the K.G. Beasts were mainly Huskies!
