The Republic of South Vietnam was threatened with a physical take over by Communist led North Vietnam, and the US responded by assisting in defending South Vietnam from that attack. It should be pointed out and made well known that the United States was involved in Vietnam well before the 1960's. The U.S. almost supported the North Vietnamese side; however, it was soon discovered that the Ho Chi Minh was communist. The U.S. believed in nationalism which meant that the Vietnamese should possess their own government-boiling down to the issue of liberating them from French colonization. It was just at that time, the Cold War was going strong and we couldn't allow the "reds" to gain another foothold in the world. Sadly, we lost that war . . . along with most of our soldiers' innocence.
The Vietnam War was fought to prevent the FREE WORLD country of South Vietnam from falling under the control of the Communist led North Vietnam.
Slavery led to the Civil War.
The same as in most wars; Vietnam had the added "rejection" from their own countrymen.
Q who was the victor of the Vietnam war? A I have no idea who won the Vietnam war!!!!
No, the Vietnam War was in Vietnam
Lyndon Johnson's presidency is generally thought to have been destroyed by the Vietnam War. He had plans for what he called The Great Society, however constant problems of the Vietnam War prevented him from achieving this lofty goal. His administration was constantly criticized for continuing the war to the point where the war was practically the only issue being addressed by him.
