In the United States the five branches are: Navy, Army, Air Force, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard.

The Coast Guard is only under the Department of Defense during times of war at which time it is considered to be part of the Navy and is otherwise under the jurisdiction of the Department of Homeland Security.

The Marine Corps is also under the Department of Navy
