At the end of 1980s, the Soviet Union relaxed its control over Eastern Europe. There were economic problems within the country and it simply could not afford to continue the Cold War in the same way.

All over Eastern Europe, communist governments started losing control for many reasons.

In November 1989, crossing points in Berlin Wall were opened.

Huge crowds of people quickly gathered and started to tear down the wall. The division of Germany was coming to an end.
