Because of the assasination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria

The assassination of Archduke Ferdinand started WW I, but it did not bring the US into the war. The US came in after repeated sinkings of civilian ships, including the Lusitania, and the discovery that the Germans were attempting to bring Mexico into the war on their side.

They were on the side of the allies because Germany had killed Americans in uboat warfare. They declared war on Germany when the government found the zimmerman telegram. They were neutral till then.

  1. Zimmerman note: Germany telling Mexico to attack the US.
  2. Submarine warfare: Germany U-boats sinking American boats.
  3. Germany sinking the Lusiatina(I'm not sure about the spelling).
  4. When Russia turned communist, and the US thought communisim was democracy, which made all the allias have a democracy, so Wilson could say "We are fighting to keep the world safe for democracy".

The United States had closer historical ties to the British and French than to the Germans and Austro-Hungarians, and also wanted to defend democracy as a form of government. There was also concern that if the Central Powers were able to conquer the Triple Entente, the resulting empire would be a threat to the US as well, sooner or later. In retrospect, none of these arguments seem all that convincing, but that is what people were thinking at the time.

American citizens were being killed by Germany's unrestricted U-boat attacks on shipping. USA entered the World War 1 because first of all, German associates were going to join forces with Mexico, as in making peace with Mexico so that it would help them attack USA because it was the leader of such a boming economy. This angered the Americans a lot, and Mexico really did end up making peace with Germany. Another reason is that one day, when all the American cargo ships were out, German pilots bombed them. They bombed Pearl Harbor in USA and killed millions of people, and blew up thousands of strong warships. They also bombed a US ship called the Lusitania which was carrying a lot of weapons, cargo, food, trade stuff, 28 US citizens and a lot of other goods. This massacre pushed the US beyond limits and they entered the war, on the triple entente side.

It was the assassination of Archduke Franz Firdinand that started World War I. The Americans were brought into WWI for that fact that the Germans sank some American ships, and that they wanted to protect there European Investments.
