Hitler came in power on the 30th January 1933. He was Chancellor, the highest rank in the German government.

While in power, he wanted to abolish and exploit the Treaty of Versailles, a treaty made by Woodrow Wilson (USA), David Lloyd George (Britain) and George Clemenceau (France). It was very harsh on Germany and it included things like reducing Germany's army to only 100 000 men, no tanks or military aircraft, no submarines and they were only allowed 6 battleships. The treaty also took all the land that Germany had conquered, like Eupen-Malmedy (from Belgium) and Alsace-Lorraine (from France). The Saar region had also been taken from Germany and given to the League of Nations. The harshest punishment from the treaty was that Germany had to pay £6.6 billion in reparations to pay for the war over a period of 42 years. With the Wall Street Crash in 1929, it was an extremely hard thing to do for Germany.

Hitler wanted to do all he could to abolish this treaty and get revenge on Britain, France and America for all these punishments that Germany had received. Hitler got the Saar region back from the League of Nations in 1935 through a plebiscite (vote) that took place, and 99% of the people said they wanted to go back to belonging to Germany.

Hitler had an Anschluss with Austria by getting Austrian Nazis to murder the Austrian leader, Dulfuss, then Hitler organized a vote with the next leader, Schuschnigg and 99.9% of the people said they wanted to go with Germany. Hitler was scared that the votes would turn out to have a negative result, so he positioned his troops outside the Austrian border as a threat and warning.

After that, Hitler went on to revenge the Jews for all the glory that he thought they had taken away from him during his life.
