Nicknamed "Tecumseh," William Sherman was known for being a great American general. He led the burning of Atlanta. He was also a good friend of President Grant, despite the fact that he tried to dissuade him from running for office.

In the Civil War, William T Sherman was a Union General. He led his forces down through Georgia , finishing in Savannah in "Sherman's March to the Sea". He and his forces destroyed everything in their path, completely demolishing Georgia (especially demolishing Atlanta). Sherman thought that destroying Atlanta, the "Heart of the Confederacy", would weaken the South's ability to fight the Civil War. Sherman was right: a few days after "Sherman's March to the Sea", General Robert E Lee surrendered to General Ulysses S Grant at Appomattox Courthouse in Virginia.

He often attacked barns and attempted to destroy the infastructure rather than randomly. His most famous move was the march to the sea where he left a trail of devastation behind him which split the confederates in two.
