Governments were either free governments or communist government, with some exceptions of dictator governments such as Franco's Spain or Tito in Europe.
The Cold War developed from the conflict between the US and the USSR, which sought to become the dominant world power. The US opposed all communist governments, while the USSR supported many, and established puppet regimes in Eastern Europe.
During the Cold War, Spain's major conflicts were largely shaped by its internal politics and its strategic position in Europe. The country was under the authoritarian regime of Francisco Franco, who, although initially neutral during World War II, aligned with the West during the Cold War, receiving U.S. military and economic aid. Key tensions included the struggle against Franco's dictatorship, which led to opposition movements, and Spain's eventual transition to democracy in the late 1970s. Additionally, Spain's colonial conflicts, particularly in Western Sahara, added to its complex geopolitical landscape during this period.
WWII was the beginning of the cold war where the United States and the USSR fought over being the world super power, and therefore both of them were trying to spread their ideology to the rest of the world. Communist governments were established after WWII because the Soviet Union reinforced them.
The collapse of the Soviet Union and a softening of communist governments world-wide.
