They had many tools for surgery such as a bone saw (you can probably guess what that was used for OUCH!) tongs for extracting bullets, needles and thread. and a lot of other tools. usually if a woman wanted to be in the civil war they would be a nurse or disguise themselves as a man and enter the war.
