1. WW2 veterans led the war in Vietnam; General Westermoreland (veteran of the Battle of the Hurtzgen Forest in WW2), General Abrams (veteran of the Battle of the Bulge WW2), Gen Curtis LeMay (veteran of bomber command WW2), USAF Col. Robin Olds had WW2 & Vietnam War Aerial Combat Victories (Dog-Fighting Kills), etc. 2. WW2 created the new US Army branch of "Airborne Divisions" (paratroopers). Vietnam created the new US Army branch of "Airmobile Divisions" (helicopters). 3. WW2 was the FIRST US war in which every fighting man had a semi-automatic rifle (M-1 Garand). Vietnam was the FIRST US war in which every fighting man had a fully-automatic rifle (M-16). 4. WW2 & Vietnam War US Infantrymen Helmets remained the same; M-1 steel pot. 5. WW2 & Vietnam were highly mobile wars; WW2 used the fixed-wing aircraft & Vietnam used the helicopter. 6. WW2 USN used the wooden 80' long PT-Boat (12 crewmen); Vietnam used the aluminum 50' long Swift Boat (6 crewmen). 7. WW2 used propeller driven airplanes, with a brief introduction of jet aircraft at the end of the war; Vietnam was fought by jet aircraft, but was the last war to use a propeller driven single engine attack warplane in a US war...the A-1 Skyraider (depicted in the film: Rescue Dawn); which was used by both the USAF and the USN.

The only similarity was:

They were both Asian wars in which a communist Northern country attempted to take over a REPUBLIC (free) southern country.

Otherwise they were quite different:

1. Korea began in a conventional WWII manner and ended in a WWI manner with an armistice with NO communist victory.

2. Vietnam began by infiltration and ended with a WWII conventional tank/infantry attack and communist victory.
