The Auxiliary Territorial Service was the women's branch of the British Army during the Second World War. It was formed on 9 September 1938, initially as a women's voluntary service, and existed until 1 February 1949. The poster artist, Abram Games, did a very controversial recruiting poster for the ATS during WW2.

The ATS or Auxiliary Territorial Service was the women's branch within the British Army in WW2 .

Just at the start of WW2 the Auxillary Territorial Services consisted of women aged 20 to 30 cooking and cleaning. As the war was getting indefinetely harder they were flown to France. The Battle of Dunkirk arose and the ATS did all they could do, transporting men to safer areas of the country
