The League of Nations, created in 1920 as a result of the Treaty of Versailles, aimed to prevent further conflicts but ultimately failed to prevent World War II. Various political tensions and alliances prior to and during World War I contributed to the outbreak of the war, and the UN was not a factor in that conflict.
