Jeannine Burk, like many Holocaust survivors, made it through because of several factors. Her parents got her hidden, she was adapatable enough to do what was necessary to survive the rigors of living as a hidden Jew, and she did not look stereotypically Jewish. Also, na matter how scared she was at any given moment, overall, she was a very courageous and intelligent little girl, who understood that this was not a game, and that not following what she was told could mean death.
