When a soldier goes down, his gear is taken with him if possible which most times it is. With the advent of the helicopter, transportation for the living and the dead has been advanced like never before. Now, men can be taken from point of injury to a CSH in under an hour, a feat that was nearly impossible just decades ago.

Field expedient graves like the ones seen in Saving Private Ryan, are only authorized under very limited circumstances, but in the current conflicts, there is no need for them.

If a soldier is wounded on the battlefield, he will be taken by MEDEVAC or CASEVAC to a CSH, or Combat Support Hospital. These can provide Level III care and limited recover beds. If it is determined that the soldier cannot return to duty within a week, he will be shipped out of country, usually back to his country of origin. Once he is well enough, he will return to duty with his unit in theater.

Things like vehicles and helicopters that go down in the field which cannot be recovered either due to logistics or danger, will be destroyed in place by aircraft.
